Consider Yourself Invited

One exhibition, two scenarios

Two Moroccan artists are invited to take part in the festival. One, Mohammed Laouli, meets all the visa requirements; the other, Mohamed Arejdal, does not. A presentation of their respective artistic works (as required for the vosa procedures as well) will be held in two separate but identical spaces, together with photos and texts documenting their visa application process. The public will also be able to talk with each of the artists directly. A visitor will be chosen at random and given the opportunity to travel to Morocco and visit the artist whose visa application was refused. A second visitor, also chosen at random, will be asked to offer their own home as the venue for a discussion with the artist who was granted a visa. Random Institute has developed a multi-layered project that tackles issues such as prejudice, privilege and subordination, and addresses head on the delicate question: will the visiting artist overstay his visa in order to build a new life for himself in Europe
