Wanted: Ballet for a contemporary democracy

Wanted: Ballet for a contemporary democracy was based on a survey, taken by Chunky Move, of thousands of Australians. Their goal was to define the favourite choreography of the population with a multiple-choice questionnaire. Wanted is the result of this survey. A female voice reads the results and eight dancers illustrate the different responses on stage. Chunky Move is inspired from two Russian artists, Komar and Melamid, who, in 1993, organized a survey in the United States in order to paint the most democratically desired painting. With Wanted, Gideon Obarzanek and his company give us both: a socially engaged, subversive show and a documentary of contemporary dance.
