Documenting what could have been
Matthias or Franziska, Carole or Jean, Ben or Emma. During the early part of the festival, Mats Staub invites artists, members of the festival team, festival-goers and locals in front of his camera in order to reveal what they would have been called if they had been of the opposite sex. He then will edit the footage gathered over the four days to create a video installation. The confluence of these many different faces who appear under their “other” name prompt a deep and emotional meditation on fundamental issues such as identity, destiny, family, community and the bonds that hold humanity together.
