BURNT-BACK

Burnt-Back addresses the problem of immigration through the eyes of an American, an outcast who crosses the Rio Grande counter-current. Interested by the lives of the Mexicans who leave everything behind to live in the United States, the director, Fernando Frias (born in 1979) lands in Virginia and randomly runs into Jimi. Jimi is 30 years old. He has 2 daughters, was divorced and remaried. Through countless whitewash jobs, turned in by his sister, he gets acquainted with Culpepper county prison. His life is one hard-luck story after another. A fire at his place of work leaves him disfigured by burn scars. The mysterious disappearance of his father's will leaves him homeless and broke. Jim has but one dream: to run away from those who deceived him, to go to Mexico with his wife. This documentary is a laureate of the BBI's 2007 creation contest.
