James Turrell will give a keynote address as well as mounting an exhibition in the alcoves and various spaces of the Belluard on the theme «Alien Exam». His presentation and the models, drawings and installations in the exhibition will visually question the un- conscious imagery behind the sighting of apparently extraterrestrial spacecraft by numerous witnesses across the past four de- cades. Turrell is a «Chevalier des Arts et des lettres» in France, has had numerous oneperson shows including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Hayward Gallery, London, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Lyon, the Kunsthalle Basel, and the Kunstmuseum, Berne. Primarily a Light and Earth artist, he is particularly well known by the public for his massive project to remodel a tunnel beneath the Roden Crater, an extinct volcano in the Arizona desert, to open in the year 2000.
